Welcome to the 2024-25 Patriot Reading Challenge! American Heritage School’s 3rd Annual book competition in SLC.
We have added incentives to help keep students motivated and on track for the competition on Tuesday, March 25th from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
What is the Patriot Reading Challenge?
A reading program designed to increase reading for students in 2nd through 8th grades. Students’ knowledge of selected titles will be tested. Prizes will be awarded to top-scoring teams.
Who can participate?
Students in grades 2nd –8th may participate. Students will be grouped into three divisions:
- Division 1 = 2nd–3rd grade students,
- Division 2 = 4th-5th graders, and
- Division 3 = 6th–8th graders
What do students need to do to participate?
Students need to create a team with about 3 members. Team members do not have to be in the same grade, but they must be in the designated divisions mentioned above.
If you don’t have a team, you can sign up and we can help you find one. Individuals need to pay a $7 registration fee. Teams may register by Friday, December 13th.
What does a team do?
The team will be provided with a bookmark that lists their books and a lanyard on December 17th. Between December 17th and March 25th, the team should read each of the books (each member may read all of the books in their division, or the books may be divided equally between each member).
On the day of the challenge, teams will compete against each other testing their knowledge of the content of each book. Questions will cover information from all the books on the list. It is recommended that each team select an “expert” for every book.
What books will the teams read?
Book lists will be provided below and, on a bookmark, and online.
How do students get the books?
A limited number of copies of each title will be available through the American Heritage School library. Titles may also be available through public libraries or for purchase through online and local bookstores.
When can teams register?
Teams may register from Dec. 3rd through Friday, December 13th. Students who register and participate will receive a lanyard and pins for each book completed as well as other prizes.
