Message from the Admissions Director

Welcome to American Heritage School! I’m thrilled that your family is considering AHS and exploring our educational model that is built on learning “by study and also by faith.” For over 50 years, American Heritage School has provided a culture of education founded on faith, freedom, and family.

In observing our AHS students, I am amazed at the ownership they take in their education. They do not simply rehearse what is taught, but apply the ideas and lessons they enjoy at school. Their comments in class and conversations around school clearly demonstrate that they are considering “How does this principle apply to me?” and “How can I bless those around me?”

To understand and appreciate what we have to offer, I invite you to visit one of our campuses. Step into a classroom and observe our teachers as they powerfully integrate principles of the Restored Gospel into strong academics with proven methodologies. Meet our students and hear why they love American Heritage School. Tour the campus and feel the remarkable spirit that draws so many to our mission. In addition to scheduling a school visit or attending one of our on-campus events, we hope you will become acquainted with our admissions webpage, which provides helpful information about the application process and next steps.

We are currently accepting admission and financial aid applications for the 2023–24 school year for grades K–11 at our Salt Lake City Campus (grade 12 to be added in Fall 2024) and K–12 at our American Fork Campus. Accessibility to an AHS educational experience is of utmost importance to us, and generous tuition assistance is available for AHS families.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly as you explore your future with American Heritage School. We look forward to meeting you and your family!

Warmly,

Kristen Jansen, Admissions Director

Admissions Process

American Heritage School supports families through the following admissions process:

1. Start Admissions Inquiry

Start the admissions inquiry process by clicking the “Start Inquiry” button and completing basic information about your student(s). After submitting an inquiry, you should receive an email confirmation. You will be contacted by an admissions team member shortly.

American Heritage School encourages families interested in applying to review the school’s website, talk to AHS families, call the school, request a tour of our campus, visit our classrooms, and attend school community events.

2. Begin Application

Upon receipt of your inquiry, an email will be sent prompting you to create a parent account in Veracross, the school’s information system. You will need to log into this account to access the “Admissions Portal,” where you will follow the steps to complete your application (which is separate from the inquiry form).  An example of the admissions portal is illustrated below:

As part of the application, you will be required to upload student transcripts, immunization records, a photo of your student, and to pay the required application fee. The application fee covers the cost of teacher-lead assessments as described below.

3. Family Interview

As completed applications are received, American Heritage School contacts families to schedule an interview, either on campus or virtually. The prospective student(s) and both living parents should attend the interview whenever possible. Click this link to schedule a meeting with Principal Leland Anderson, and please include “family interview” in the reason for the meeting.

4. Academic Evaluation

An academic assessment helps American Heritage School learn how it can best support the student and family. Assessment times vary from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the grade-level of the prospective student. All families receive personal feedback within a few weeks following this assessment. Read more about our academic evaluation and expectations.

5. Notification of Admission Status

Within 2–4 weeks of the academic assessment, an applicant’s admission status will be communicated to applying families via phone and/or email.

Priority Acceptance Policy; Admission Criteria

For more information, read our Priority Acceptance Policy. Families may request assistance from the school’s admissions office at any point in the enrollment process. We look forward to receiving your application!

Non-discrimination Notice: American Heritage School does not discriminate against any employee, student, employee applicant, or student applicant because of race, creed, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical and/or mental disability. American Heritage School adheres to this non-discrimination policy with respect to all of its policies and programs, including educational programs, employment and admission programs, scholarship and financial aid programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs. In keeping with the school’s religious orientation and purpose, as well as with the school’s desire to respect the dignity and diversity of individuals, the school affords equal opportunity in employment and admission on the basis of sexual orientation, but not on the basis of conduct. All members of the school community are required to comply with the American Heritage School Honor Code, which requires chastity outside of marriage, and fidelity in marriage, as further defined in The Family, A Proclamation to the World (“The Family Proclamation”), issued by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The school affirms the centrality of doctrines in The Family Proclamation relating to human sexuality and gender, as well as the sanctity and significance of marriage as the union of a man and a woman. The school, as is permitted by accreditation standards and regulations, prefers faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in employment. American Heritage School also affirms that all people are equally beloved children of God and deserve to be treated with love and respect, and we recognize the critical importance of a safe campus environment for all students and employees.
