Auditions Due August 31
Symphony – Thurs. 4:00 – 6:00 P.M.
Advanced full symphony orchestra led by Kayson Brown. Students are expected to be fluent across the full range of their instrument, perform music at an advanced level and show musicality including in advanced repertoire. Instrumentation includes strings, winds, brass, and percussion. Students must be in 8th-12th grade. Students will participate in recordings, music videos, and performances with special guest artists. The Lyceum Symphony may combine with the Lyceum Philharmonic on large-scale events.
Intermezzo Strings – Thurs. 4:00 – 5:30 P.M.
Intermediate string ensemble led by Sarah Arnesen. Students should read music well with good intonation and beautiful tone, be comfortable shifting including in 1st through 5th positions, vibrato, be capable of playing in difficult key signatures, and be studying with a private teacher. Intermezzo Strings provides students the opportunity to perform the masterworks of the string literature. Intermezzo Strings collaborates with guest artists, choirs, and other performing groups and is introduced to professional recording studio experiences.
Debut Strings – Thurs. 4:00 – 5:30 P.M.
Basic string ensemble led by Ellen VanDam. Students should be studying with a private teacher, read simple music, and have at least one year of playing experience. Students are required to play comfortably in first position including some extensions as well as beginning shifting. Debut Strings gives young musicians an opportunity to excel musically alongside students of like ability in a fun, non-competitive learning environment. A variety of levels are provided within the ensemble to meet young musicians at the threshold of their ability levels. Students under the age of 8 or with limited music reading experience are strongly encouraged to have a parent attend rehearsals and practice with them.
Harp Ensemble – Tues. 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. (every other week)
Intermediate to advanced harp ensemble led by Julie Gaisford Keyes. Students practice and perform alongside harpists of like ability making friends and enjoying unique performance opportunities. Students regularly work with expert guest artists, perform with other ensembles, and participate in events that help integrate students into the larger harp community. Students should have a strong foundation in note reading and be proficient in changing their own levers. Entrance is based off of audition accommodating a variety of skill levels from intermediate to advanced.
An audition is required for entrance into all ensembles.
